History

However, Raymond James Stadium is most known for one thing: the pirate ship.
Weighing in at 43 tons and stretching 103 feet long (31 m), the pirate ship includes replica cannons that go off anytime the Buccaneers score points, enter the opposing red zone or win a home game. It sits above the north end zone at the stadium with team flags adorning all parts of the ship. While the ship plays an integral part of in-game promotions, the most surprising aspect is that the ship does not have an official name. However, many locals call it the “Mini Gasparilla”, a variant of the actual historical pirate ship “Jose Gasparilla” that floats in a nearby harbor on Tampa Bay.

Television broadcasts for the Super Bowls and college football playoffs use the deck of the ship as a stage for pregame, postgame and halftime analysis.

Raymond James Stadium was designed by architectural firms Wagner Murray and HOK Sport, which is now under Kansas City-based Populous. It cost $168.5 million and was completely funded through the public. A single bowl surrounds the field with a second deck above the two sidelines. Video boards in the end zones were more than tripled in size as part of a 2016 renovation, providing over 28,000 square feet (2,600 square meters) around the stadium. That is the third largest amount of video boards in the National Football League.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the first team to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium, as they play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021. It is the third Super Bowl held at the stadium. The largest football crowd goes to the 2016 College Football National Championship game in 2017, as 74,512 fans watched the Clemson Tigers defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The stadium occasionally hosts international soccer matches, with one World Cup qualifier in 2014. A friendly between the United States and Colombia hosted 38,631 fans, but it historically does not draw well for the sport. The last soccer game held in the stadium was a friendly between Colombia and Venezuela in September 2019.

Concerts are regularly held at Raymond James, with the largest being a 2009 U2 concert to 72,000 fans. WrestleMania 36 was expecting more fans, however it was moved to Orlando due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The stadium was awarded WrestleMania 37 in 2021 for the scheduling change.

With the revival and sale of the XFL, the Tampa Bay Vipers may or may not stay at Raymond James Stadium when the league restarts. The team may potentially relocate to nearby Orlando, but there are multiple conflicting reports from official league, stadium and government sources.

Driving

There is plenty of parking to be found around the Raymond James Stadium but be warned they only accept credit cards and not cash (Apart from the HCC lot). You can also prepay for your ticket using the Bucs App.

The Luxury Suites are closest to the stadium followed by the Stadium Club and finally the General Season Pass. All parking spaces are pretty near though so I wouldn’t worry about getting a space further away.

Check out the Buccaneers site here to read more about parking.
